Proscar | 5mg di Finasteride, Prostata e capelli

Proscar, finasteride 5mg for prostate and hair loss

Originally branded by Merk, Proscar is the trade name for finasteride.

It was approved as a drug for benign prostatic hypertrophy in the early 1990s. The “alternative” use was not long in coming, after that as a “side effect” was noted a strength and body in the hair never seen before.

Benign prostatic hypertrophy is a condition that occurs in the adult male and consists of an abnormal enlargement of the prostate. If the prostate becomes too large, complications can arise that lead to difficulty urinating.

When a person is not fully able to urinate, bladder stones can develop, urinary tract infections, damage to the bladder itself and to the kidneys. Tackling benign prostatic hypertrophy early on is essential to curb the problem as much as possible, allowing the affected person to be able to maintain an optimal quality of life.

DHT – dihydrotestosterone – the hormone responsible for benign prostatic hypertrophy

Prostate growth is regulated by DHT, a hormone produced by the conversion of testosterone. The term DHT stands for dihydrotestosterone.

DHT provides a continuous boost to the prostate and tends to make it grow bigger and bigger. Since it is not possible to block DHT receptors in the prostate, it is necessary to lower the levels of this hormone in order to slow down the enlargement.

A study conducted in the late 1990s showed that proscar was able to reduce the size of the prostate by over twenty percent. Proscar is designed to be taken chronically and the side effects on the kidneys and stomach are very small in magnitude and percentage. At the end of taking proscar, the serum level of DHT will return to its previous level (presumably) and, therefore, the prostate will grow again.

One of the “side effects” of proscar is hair regrowth

As we have previously written one of the side effects that has been found in proscar users has been hair regrowth, improved caliber and overall scalp health.

It has now been widely demonstrated that DHT is the cause of both prostate enlargement and hair loss in the mildly predisposed male.

The dosage of proscar differs in the treatment of prostatic hypertrophy and baldness:

  • For prostatic hypertrophy it is recommended to take 5mg of proscar daily.
  • For androgenetic alopecia it is recommended to take 1mg of proscar per day.
