Spironolactone | antiandrogen (topical) for hair loss.

The spironolactone is a diuretic that increases the amount of salt and water removed from the body by the kidneys without expelling potassium. This is another reason why it is used to combat potassium insufficiency that generates low blood pressure.

Spironolactone is also, of course, an anti-androgen. It considerably reduces male androgenic hormones in the body due to an inhibition of the enzyme 5 alpha reductase which prevents testosterone from turning into DHT (dihydrotestosterone).

DHT can cause baldness since it attacks the hair follicles and makes them no longer able to nourish themselves, preventing healthy and natural growth. Not everyone is sensitive to DHT and this may be due to a genetic predisposition. Not all of us lose our hair and/or suffer from benign prostatic hypertrophy.

For those who are sensitive to hair loss, a decrease in DHT means a reduction in hair loss and an overall improvement in scalp health.

Therefore, it is used topically to decrease the sensitivity of the hair follicle to the action of DHT and therefore to lower dihydrotestosterone.

Spironolactone as already prescribed is a very potent antiandrogen. Can it be used to combat alopecia in the adult male while minimizing side effects?

Spironolactone taken in systemic form.

Although spironolactone would help combat hair loss in the male this is not prescribed. The reason is that when taken systemically (not topically) it can cause violent hormonal changes so much so that it is also used during sex change processes.

Spironolactone is only prescribed for topical therapy to the adult male while it can also be prescribed systematically for the female.

Spironolottane is also strongly used for acne reduction..

What could be the side effects of taking sprironolactone?

The side effects that can be caused can be: muscle spasms, drowsiness and dizziness, hives, rashes, etc…

As with all medications, remember that self-medication is never possible and that medicines must be prescribed by your doctor and cannot be bought online.
